No. 28 GC Golf 11th after Two Rounds of Pirate Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – When play finished on Monday evening, the No. 28 Georgia College golf team found themselves in 11th place of the 17-team field at the Pirate Invitational, hosted by No. 8 Armstrong Atlantic State University.

The Bobcats posted rounds of 309 and 297, for a 30-over par total on the par-72 Savannah Quarters Golf Club in Savannah, Ga. The 30-over par total puts the Bobcats 39 shots off the lead, but just three strokes out of the top-10 and 20 from the top-five.

Senior Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) led the GC golf team with scores of 76 and 68 on the first day of action. His 144 total is good enough for T-13th overall, and even-par on the scorecard.

Fellow Bobcat Victor Monte (Chantilly, Va.) shot rounds of 74 and 75, good for T-32nd and plus-five. Behind him is Nicolas Falkinhoff (Buenos Aires, Argentina) tied for 63rd at plus-13, with rounds of 80 and 77.

Ryan Trocchio (Norcross, Ga.) carded a plus-13 as well, with round scores of 79 and 78. Sophomore David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) fired rounds of 82 and 87, for a plus-15 and tied for 72nd overall.

No. 14 Nova Southeastern University holds the team lead after two rounds with a nine-under par. The individual pace was set by Hunter O’Mahony of the Sharks at six-under, one shot ahead of Travis Williamson of host Armstrong.

The Bobcats are ahead of one top-25 team in the most recent GolfStat.com rankings, as No. 18 Mount Olive College was in 13th place. Of the 10 teams ahead of the Bobcats, xx are in the top-25 including Nova and Armstrong, No. 6 Lynn University, No. 12 Flagler College, No. 15 North Alabama, No. 16 University of West Georgia and No. 23 Florida Southern College.

The third and final round will be underway tomorrow morning, Feb. 25.
