CPR Device Helps Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Save Lives
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) -Macon- Bibb County Emergency Medical Technicians have a new device to assist them in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Most of the health calls to the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department are for people suffering from heart attacks, or coronary heart diseases. The most common symptom is chest pain.
The fire department is now using the “Auto-Pulse”, which frees up emergency workers, and allows them to use other resources while working to revive a patient.
“It actually circulates blood through the heart and tries to maintain life,” said Lt. Demeterius Ellison. “If you have ever rode in an ambulance you have one person, who is actually standing up doing CPR you can be thrown around ini the back of the truck. It also gives continuous CPR at least 100 chest compressions per minute.”
Once “Auto-Pulse” is placed on the patient, it is not removed until the ambulance arrives at the hospital.
