House Interior Destroyed by Fire

MACON, Georgia (41NBC?WMGT) – A mid morning fire gutted out the interior of a house Thursday.

Smoke filled the neighborhood shortly before 11 am., in the 2700 block of Napier Avenue, after firefighters put out the flames.

As a precaution, Georgia Power turned of the electricity inside the home.

Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins says he believes the fire was ignited by a faulty electrical system.

“When initial crews arrived they actually did find smoke that was coming off the roof area of the structure,” said Chief Riggins. “Upon their immediate entry, they found the fire on the second level of the home and had penetrated itself from the floor into the attic level.”

No one was at the home during the fire. The house was under renovation, according to Chief Riggins.

Arson investigators were on the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.

However, Chief Riggins says he does not believe the fire was deliberately set.
