Flanders Named PBC Softball Freshman of the Week

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Georgia College freshman Faith Flanders (Dublin, Ga.) has been named the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Softball AstroTurf Freshman of the Week for her performance in helping the softball team to a 2-2 record this past weekend in the 2014 Bobcat Blast. Flanders was also named Bobcat Athlete of the Week Tuesday.

In her first collegiate softball pitching appearance, Flanders tossed seven shutout innings for the Bobcats against Queens University, allowing only three hits and no walks. She picked up her first win as the Bobcats defeated the Royals, 3-0.

Flanders had stretches of setting down nine and then another eight hitters in a row during the game, and allowed just two runners to reach third base.

Flanders becomes the first Bobcat to win the award this season and the fifth overall. Sophomore Abi LeRoy (Dublin, Ga.) was the last Georgia College player to garner the award last April and coincidently also hails from Dublin, Ga.

The Bobcats host Albany State University Friday, Feb. 7 for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at the Peeler Complex.
