No. 11 GC Men’s Tennis Team Starts Season With Shutout Win

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE)  – The No. 11 Georgia College men’s tennis team kicked off their spring season against Morehouse College at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility with a 9-0 win. The Bobcats took a 24-2 advantage into singles play and lost only 14 games on their way to victory.

Senior Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) was the only Bobcat not to surrender a game in singles play, as he took on Everette Morris. Schubert paired with sophomore Yannick Hass (Troisdorf, Germany) for an 8-1 doubles win at the first position, before taking two straight-set shutouts in singles play at the second position. The lone senior on the squad went 20-1 to start the spring season. Regionally-ranked No. 16, Hass won both singles sets by 6-2 scores against Kahai Hall.

In the Bobcats’ only shutout in doubles play, sophomore Taylor Powell (Martinez, Ga.) and freshman Anton Waern (Taby, Sweeden) beat Noah Terry and Chris Hawthorp, 8-0 in second doubles. Waern then disposed of Jabez Beazer, 6-1, 6-0, in third singles to match Schubert at 20-1 for the day. Powell beat Noah Terry in two 6-2 set wins.

Freshmen Kyle Kinsler (Suwanee, Ga.) paired with sophomores Mattia Campus (Concorezzo, Italy) to defeat Jabez Beazer and Brandon Sanders, 8-1 in third doubles play. Kinsler then beat Sanders with a pair of 6-2 sets, while Campus disposed of Hawthorp, 6-3, 6-0.

Next up, the Bobcats will face No. 27 Valdosta State University tomorrow at 2 p.m. for their first road match of the young season.
