Macon City Council Receives 2010 Audit Feedback

Tough feedback hit Macon City Council from the 2010 audit. Accounting firm Mouldin and Jenkins presented 29 findings Monday night.

One of the more significant findings was misspent HUD grant money. A problem that some council members believe will come back to hurt the city.

“Two years, two years, two audit years we spent over $500-thousand on non-allowables,” said city councilman, James Timley.

Timley says the city could have to pay a million dollars back to the government because of mishandling federal grant money.

Miller Edwards worked on the audit for the city and says there are a number of findings related to grant money.

“The other 17 findings were federal program related. Meaning we had questions or concerns about controls that were in place or not in place relative to the federal awards program,” said Edwards.
