2018 European host of Ryder Cup announced in May
The European Tour says the
host of the 2018 Ryder Cup will be announced on May 17.
France, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain were the
bidders. Sweden withdrew as a candidate last year.
The best-known course under consideration is Le Golf National
near Paris, which has been the venue for all but two French Opens
in the last 20 years.
Germany is proposing Wittelsbacher Golf Club an hour north of
Munich; Portugal at the new Comporta Dunes project south of Lisbon
on the Alentejo coast; Spain at Tres Cantos north of Madrid and the
Netherlands at The Dutch, 45 minutes from Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Recent European Ryder Cups were in Ireland in 2006, and Wales in
2010. Scotland is down for 2014.
