MGSC Knights Baseball Wins Season Opener 7-2

COCHRAN, Georgia (MGSC RELEASE) – The Middle Georgia State College Knights opened the 2014 season with a 7-2 win over Southern Union State Community College. New Head Coach Paul Knight notched his first win with the institution in his first game at the helm.

The Knights got strong pitching performances from Corey Kafka going 4.0 innings and striking out four and Tanner Love who also went 4.0 and struck out four. Caleb Weaver pitched the 9th to close out the win. Love picked up the win while giving up one earned run.

Drew Kelly and Ryan Lawless each had two hits. Kelley drove in Will Jones in the first for the first run of the game while Lawless drove in 3 with a double in the 5th. Kent Rollins and Drew Taylor each added a hit for the Knights and Cole Thompson and Spencer Harvey each had an RBI. Jones scored twice while walking three times on the day and Spencer Duffie scored two runs. Kelley, Thompson, and Taylor each scored one run to round out the scoring for the Knights.

The Knights will face the Bison again in a doubleheader Sunday the 2nd at 1 and3:30 PM. Visitwww.ihigh.com/mgsknights for more information.
