New Life Coming to Middle Georgia Raceway

The Middle Georgia Raceway in Byron will soon see some action. Wednesday raceway organizers announced “The Jeff Smith Chevrolet Middle Georgia RacersReunion.” This will be the first event at the track in many years. There won’t be any racing, but former racers like Tommie Clinard who was the first racer on the track will be a part of the event.

“The track did so much in its early days, there’s no telling what it did for the economy of Byron. Plus, it helps brings the racing community back in. People that use to go to the races in Byron probably haven’t been out to the track since it closed and let them come back out and relive a part of history,” said Clinard.

Vintage cars will be on display March 11-12, along with music, food, vendors and more.

Organizers say this event is a way to preserve the racetrack.  In the future there’s talk of country artists using the venue and organizers aren’t ruling out racing. ??
