Safety Tips for Driving in Cold Conditions

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The threat of snow will have an impact on Middle Georgia roadways.

Denise Parker with Dee’s Defensive Driving School tells 41NBC if you don’t have to drive then don’t. If you do hit the roads then drive 15 miles under the posted speed limit. She says drivers shouldn’t use cruise control. Remember to turn your lights on and leave plenty of space between the cars in front of you.

Parker says if you skid on a patch of ice, do not slam on the brakes. Instead, let off of the accelerator, turn into the skid, and then slowly readjust to the direction you want to go.

Parker also suggests to keep your gas tank three-quarters full, make sure there is plenty of anti-freeze, and cover your windshield to prevent it from freezing.
