Macon-Bibb EMA Preps for Snowy Weather
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Bibb Emergency Management Agency briefed local leaders, and made preparations for the big freeze that’s headed this way.
At today’s National Weather Service briefing, leaders discussed their agenda to stay a step ahead of the severe weather conditions.
EMA Director Don Druitt, says leaders have already started to take their places before the first snowfall.
“We’re making all the preparations with our public safety folks to be on the street to keep our citizens safe, says Druitt.
Most Southerners are not prepared for the winter blast, so directors and officials with the Macon Police Department, Central Georgia Red Cross, Bibb County School Board, and Macon-Bibb Public Works shared their plans to keep accidents down to a minimum, and the community safe.
“I just hope people are, you know, maintaining their speed and safety on the highways if they’re out there,” Druitt says, “It’s always our hope that people are prepared. We do know some people use the last minute to do their preparations…”
Due to the incoming weather conditions, Druitt says the EMA is one step ahead, just in case the cold temperature brings chaos on the roadways.
“We’re already into crunch time,” Druitt says, “Later this evening, and early into the morning hours when it’s freezing streets and the possibly black ice is when our first responders have to go out is…the real critical times.”
