GC Women’s Basketball OT Losses Knock Team from Top 25

LILBURN, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College women’s basketball team has received votes for the past five weeks nationally in the USA TODAY Sports Division II Top-25 Coaches’ Poll. The Bobcats dropped a pair of overtime games last week, including one against a nationally-ranked opponent, to fall from the top-25 for the first time in two weeks.

The Bobcats, who were ranked No. 24 in the previous week’s poll, received 49 votes in the Week Eight Poll released today. Georgia College was just 10 votes shy of tying the current No. 25 slot held by Minnesota State University-Mankato.

The University of North Georgia is the lone Peach Belt Conference (PBC) team remaining in the poll at No. 19, and one of the two teams the Bobcats lost to in overtime last week. In that game, Georgia College only trailed for nine seconds during regulation play.

The USA TODAY Sports board of coaches is made up of 33 head coaches at Division II institutions and they are all members of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
