Milledgeville Police Arrest 4 in Connection with New Year’s Day Shootings

 MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Four people have been arrested and charged in connection with two shootings in Milledgeville on New Year’s Day.

Decassio Tremaine Myric, Anthony Hitchcock, Aundare Griffin Jr., Jaterrious Rashad Russel are all behind bars.

Before the sun rose on Jannuary 1,2014, the Milledgeville Police Department was called to respond to two seperate shootings at a local housing complex.

According to a department news release, the River Bend apartment complex on East Macintosh Street, has suffered from gun violence in the past.

Police arrived on the scene responding to a call of shots fired just after 3-am. There they met a resident, holding an AR-15 semi automatic rifle. He turned the rifle over to police and reported hearing several gun shots from outside of his apartment. Police discovered, later on, the rifle was stolen from a Baldwin County store.

Police were unable to find suspects during their initial search, however this would not be their last visit to the complex that morning.

Less than two hours later officers responded to a call from resident James Johnson. Johnson had been struck twice in the arm while outside the apartments. Investigators were still on the scene when yet another shooting was reported.

Responders arrived at Golden Pantry on Hancock Street, around the corner from River Bend. There they found a van, with the passenger side window shot out and, inside the store, several frightened people who reported being shot at while parked in front of Building 8 of the complex. They fled quickly and hid inside the store before calling 911.
