Runners Brave Cold For Robins AFB Races

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – It’s a good thing running long distances will keep your warm.
The runners at the Museum of Aviation Saturday morning braved the cold temperatures and kept warm by running.

The donuts and coffee were lined up.

And man, the more than 1200 runners needed it–it was so cold.

“It’s cold. It’s cold. It wasn’t my best time, but I’m glad I did it,” said runner Renee Craycraft.

“Yeah, it was pretty cold. It was a nice, flat run with a few shaded spots that made it even colder, but overall it was a good run,” said runner Alex Lumpkin.

“Yeah, once you got bout half a mile it wasn’t cold anymore. You started warming up and this is the first time my little boy, who’s nine, who’s Josh, this is the first year that he’s ran it with me and he finished nearly with me. He finished the race nearly with me so I was very proud of him,” said runner Shaun Cahrmann.

The temps were in the thirties, but the 5K, Marathon, and Half Marathon runners at the Museum of Aviation Saturday morning enjoyed the run anyway.

“I love it, I love planes, I love being out here, it’s enjoyable,” said Craycraft.

“Oh it’s real nice,” said Lumpkin. “I’ve always liked planes so it was a good experience to come out here and run amongst them.”

“Really cool, really cool–this is my third time racing here and I just love it it’s a very good race, and a very cool place to run–get to run on an air force base,” said Cahrmann.

There was a cash prize for the winners of each race–but that’s not what the runners I spoke with came out for.

“Oh it was just for fun and of course it’s a local run here at Robins Air Force Base, so we like to come out to the local runs and run,” said Lumpkin.

“Just trying to stay off my couch more, be healthier, happier 2014,” said Craycraft.

Nothing like a run to warm up on a cold day, and start 2014 off with a bang.

The Half Marathon and marathon runners received a three-dimensional antique pewter medal for their efforts.

Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms was also there to enjoy the fun.

The races are held each year in mid-January.
