New Macon Charter School Holds Open House

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Officials held an open house for a new kind of school coming to Macon Saturday afternoon.

A charter school, separate from the Bibb County School System, will open this fall.

In preparation, school officials invited parents to Wesleyan College to learn more about the school and its curriculum.

The school will follow the International Baccalaureate curriculum,
which takes an international approach to learning.

A short video was shown, and school officials took questions from parents.

They also showed off what school uniforms would be like for the upcoming semester.

Mary Lou Ezell, board chair of the Macon Charter Academy, thinks residents of Macon are sure to enjoy the new school.

“The charter school is a perfect fit for Macon,” said Ezell. “We have had the International Baccalaureate Programme at Central High school for over 20 years. And they tell us–in fact, they have wanted to have an elementary and middle school here for years, and it just didn’t happen. And so, this will be a feeder school for them into Central High School.”

Ezell also said there would be more informational sessions to come.

The school will open in the fall and will be a tuition-free public school.
