Macon Transit Bus Catches Fire on I-75
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon Transit bus burns on the side of Interstate 75 under the Montpelier Avenue near downtown.
From 41NBC’s downtown studios, black smoke could be seen billowing high into the air Tuesday afternoon just after 3 p.m.
Lt. Sean Defoe of the Bibb County Sheriff’s office says no one was injured.
The fire was caused by a mechanical fault on the bus.
Two mechanics were on board, driving the bus to be worked on.
They noticed it seemed sluggish, and the engine caught fire.
They pulled over and got off the bus.
The Macon-Bibb Fire Department arrived on the scene and put the fire out.
Firefighters shoveled the remains off the road, and a towing company towed the bus away.
