Macon Man Invents Credit Card Protection App

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – If you’re not feeling safe when you make a credit card purchase, one Macon man may have your answer.

With major retailer Target facing lawsuits for a credit card data breach that affected more than 40 million people, experts say holiday shopping numbers have gone down.

Feeling safe may be as simple as using your phone.

As I watched him do it, it seemed so easy.

With the recent credit card bust retail giant Target went through, I could see why something like what Wayne Johnson described could be huge for anyone with a credit card.

“I had a great shopping experience. I just came out of one of my favorite stores, Dry Falls here. And most importantly to me is I got to use my new card feature that lets me turn my credit card on or off so I’m in control of the transaction.”

You heard him right–Wayne and his company First Performance Corporation invented an app called GoGoNoGo that allows you to turn your credit card on–to go–and off–for no, with just the tap of a finger.

Of course, I had to see it to believe it–so he invited me into the store.

Wayne explained it to store manager Jacob Fields, and we were off.

Jacob scanned the merchandise

“It’ll definitely save a lot of people some money if it works,” said Fields.

and took Wayne’s credit card, which he had turned off with the app.

“Oh, it says server not allowed,” said Fields.
“Okay, you want to try it again?” said Wayne.

Wayne turned the card back on, and this time

“Success! That is cool. If I could just get your signature there…”

It was that quick–no delay.

Wayne told me he worked for Visa prior to creating this app, and has partners that have heavy experience with credit card systems.

“Right now, I’ve got this card off because I just used it and I decided to turn it off,” said Wayne. “But I’m going to turn it back on. So I hit this button for the master switch. I hit this button because I’m gonna use it in store. And so the net result is now I  have the card turned on and I can go to the cashier and it would work.”

And as far as security with your banking information, GoGoNoGo has you covered on that as well.

“Your bank is the one that has to make it available to you,” said Wayne. “We can’t make it available to you, only your bank that has elected to employ this capability that we make available to the bank can make it available to you. So it’s your bank that you’re dealing with, not a third party.”

And with many busy shopping days ahead, now you can feel safe with every swipe.

GoGoNoGo also features a setting to turn on or off specific uses of the card, like ATM or internet use, while leaving others on.

Wayne is planning on making the app available in the iTunes Store and the Android Market,
and would probably charge a small monthly fee for the service.
