New Year’s Resolution To Get in Shape at Planet Fitness

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A new year means new year’s resolutions!
You’ve probably already started listing a few yourself. Some people hope to shed a few pounds in 2014.

With just one look anybody can see, that sixty six year-old Flossie Ware looks great! But she will be the first  to tell you, she lost almost 60 pounds by watching what she ate and working out. Now, exercise is a part of her daily routine.

“I have this thing that if I work out-work out good, it stops the aging process for me,” says Ware. “I just love to do free weights, they give you good definition and I like that, and I love cardio.”

Alex King is a trainer at Planet Fitness he believes in personalized training and teaches “Body Specific Classes.”

“The way I do that is by changing up their routines,” says King.

He leads a 30 minute circuit class twice a day. He gives each person a different exercise and then switches it every 30 seconds.

“As Americans we do find a lot of times we are getting into a kick, where fitness is coming around, but obesity has played a big role,” adds King.

On a good day James Martinez can bench press 275 pounds. But, he likes to stay around 185. That way he says he does not over exert himself. He says he can tell the difference when he dose not work out.

“You feel better about yourself, you feel like you can do more,” says Martinez. “For me it’s kind of like a stress relief. It gets me through the day.”

Planet Fitness assistant manager, Dennis Searcy says he is concerned that most people do not even realize that they are overweight, some are even obese. The execessive weight usually leads to all kinds of health issues. Still, he says his goal is to help you reach your goal.

“New Year’s resolutions normally end quick for people, because they normally give up on their goals,” says Searcy. “So we try to encourage them to stay with it, and try to encourage them more or less that this is more of a home for them rather than just a gym.”
