Macon’s Cherry Blossom Ball Drop set to ring in 2014

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The final hours of 2013 are upon us, and the Cherry Blossom Ball is ready to drop.

Tuesday night, the fifth annual event will be held at Cherry Street Plaza.

The free night of fun will feature music from DJ Laura Starling.  Both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage vendors will be there, and so will Doughboy’s Pizza.

Of course, there will also be inflatables for the kids to play on while mom and dad ring in the new year.

The pink lights that light up the Cherry Blossom Ball won’t be the only lights in the night sky.  Fireworks will blast off at 9 p.m. and also at midnight after the ball drops.

Sean Pritchard, Cherry Blossom business manager, estimates Tuesday’s crowd will be between 4,000 and 5,000 people.

“I like how everyone’s lighting up the dance floor,” said Preston Anderson, who attended.

“Just as far us being new here, it gives us a chance to see the community–who all is out and stuff and seeing how the people interact and stuff,” It’s been pretty friendly and everything,” said Carla Coleman, who attended.

“What’s going on that’s really making it so crazy? The music, the celebration,” said Tyesha Haywood, who attended.
