Hundreds turn out for first Buzzard Drop
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hundreds showed up at the City of Perry’s first “Buzzard Drop” Tuesday night.
Crowds began filling the courthouse square just before 9 p.m. Music was provided by the Celebration Band, and both food and alcohol vendors were on-site.
The buzzard, named Bob, was put together over the course of a few months by city workers
after it was brought up that Perry needed a New Year’s Eve celebration of its own.
A buzzard was chosen because so many of them come into the area around this time of year. A couple of city workers put Bob together using scrap metal.
“This is the best thing that’s going on in middle Georgia tonight,” says Virgil Newberry. “Perry. . . the Buzzard Drop, Bob the Buzzard!”
The buzzard will drop down its 30-foot pole at midnight.
Rusty’s Downtown Grill and Bar is open, and The New Perry Hotel still has rooms available. The hotel will provide breakfast starting at 11:30 p.m.
The city will provide buses for those who’ve had too much to drink.
