Fire Investigators Probe Suspicious Blaze

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Firefighters are calling an early morning fire “suspicious.”
The blaze destroyed a downtown building, which was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived around 5:30 a.m., Monday morning.
Only a charred building frame remains from the Mid-State Automotive Machine shop on Third Street in downtown Macon.
Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins says firefighters could see flames and smoke shooting out of the building when they arrived.
Riggins said firefighters found two vehicles inside the burning building.

“We were able to go in and solidify the source of the fire and contain it, to where we originally found it,” said Chief Riggins. “The fire did not totally demolish the building. It did have some heavy smoke and fire damage done to the facility.”
Chief Riggins said no one was inside the burning building and none of his firefighters were injured.
Fire investigators combed through what was left, looking for clues of what caused the fire.
They suspect the fire could be due to arson, because the front door was broken into.
