Healthcare Blitz Plans to Help Residents Sign Up for Health Insurance

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Residents who haven’t signed up for healthcare, now have a chance thanks to officials at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.

They’re preparing for a health care blitz, where medical professionals are aiming to help as many people sign up as they can.

“There’s not been a good turn out for the exchanges, and we think we’re missing an opportunity to help the community get enrolled,” Peggy Boyles, Assistant Director of Patient Access at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, said.

Boyles says she and her staff are ready to help residents looking to sign up for health care.

The website, healthcare.gov, has received a ton of scrutiny and she’s worried that may have turned some people off.

“A lot of people don’t understand they now have the opportunity to have insurance, where they’ve not had that opportunity before because maybe they had a pre-existing condition or maybe they couldn’t afford the premiums,” Boyles said.

“I just encourage people to be patient with us, because we don’t have an idea of how many people we’re going to be serving, but we will get everybody through,” she said.

Four certified application counselors and a certified navigator will be there to help people get through the website.

“When they’re there, they need to prepare to stay for about an hour and half and help us so that we can help them get through the process of signing up,” Boyles said.

And if you’re in a hurry and would like to cut down on a little bit of time, Boyles says to bring your social security info, tax returns, or your most recent pay stub.

“If they can bring those kinds of information with them it’ll help us a little bit more with the process, and being able to get them on through,” Boyles said.

The Healthcare Blitz is December 18th from 11 am – 7 pm at 3780 Eisenhower Pkwy, Macon, GA
