Reichert Drops By Bibb Elementary School to Talk Local Government

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Third graders at Ingram-Pye Elementary School in Macon had a unique opportunity for a social studies lesson Monday with Macon Mayor Robert Reichert.

The students are learning about how the local, state, and national governments work and Reichert was there to help them figure out how things operate, and also what his job entails as mayor.

Reichert, who’s preparing to become the first mayor of the new Macon-Bibb consolidated government, thinks it’s important to put a face on the government in the community.

“I think it personalizes the information and makes it real and makes it relevant to something, not just in textbooks that’s happening a long way away, but what’s actually happening right here in town. And what we do, talking about fire protection services, and recreation services, and libraries and things like that we provide on a local level. It kind of makes it real and makes it relevant to them,” Reichert said.

He says he’s excited and anxious about swearing in into his new position on December 31st, and he’s ready to hit the ground running.

“It’s going to take a lot of hard work not just by the mayor, not just by the staff and the new nine member commission, we’re going to have to get the whole community involved, and believe that we can be better,” Reichert said.
