Road Work Project in East Bibb Set to Begin

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After 25 years, two east Bibb County roads are getting much needed upgrades.

Bibb Commission chair Sam Hart announced this morning, he signed an agreement with the Georgia Department of Tranportation that will use $2 million in county funds to begin work on Jeffersonville Road and Millerfield Road.

The project would widen the street and also provide sidewalks in certain areas.

Hart says all of the plans are finally coming together.

“The state was able to come up with the money to do most of the work that we needed to complete it, but the soft costs the costs to start the right of way, had to come from local funds,” Hart said.

The project has taken nearly 25 years to begin because of everything from environmental issues, to a dam, to a historic home blocking roadwork.

GDOT will reimburse the county on a quarterly basis.

After the initial funding is used, Hart says it’ll take about $48 million to complete the project.
