Local Pecan Farmers Expect Bountiful Harvest Season

SANDERSVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Lane Southern Orchards farmers harvest pecans at the peak of fall season.

The company dedicates more than 1,000 acres at its Sandersville location to producing the nut that many people will use around the holidays, and year-round.

Farm manager Phillip Rigdon says 50 percent of their crop is sold locally, and the rest is shipped around the world, including to countries like China.

“We usually come over the first of December to get started, and the whole process takes us roughly about…14 to 16 days depending on the weather.”

Rigdon expects more than 4,000,000 pounds of pecans this season.
