ARC, Cherry Blossom Festival Partner Up For New Year Celebration

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Ring in the New Year Macon style with the annual Cherry Blossom Ball drop.

The event is taking place once again in the heart of downtown Macon this year, and a ball decorated with pink christmas lights in honor of Macon’s famous flower will fall from the sky to bring in 2014.

For the first time, the event will be put on by a partnership between the Advocacy Resource Center and the Cherry Blossom Festival.

“We got together and we designed a partnership that will allow the ARC and the Cherry Blossom Festival to present the ball drop on New Year’s Eve–starting this coming New Year’s Eve, which is a special one because it’ll be the first time we’ve done it as a joint partnership,” said Jake Ferro, President and CEO of the Cherry Blossom Festival.

“One of the reasons we want to do this is to help people understand about the Advocacy Resource Center and the good work that we do for people with disabilities,” said Andy Harrell, Chief Administrative Officer at the Advocacy Resource Center of Macon.

The News Year’s Eve festivities will feature activities for kids, an early fireworks show, music and food.
More than 4,000 people came out last year, and organizers hope for that same success this year.
