‘Mayors’ Motorcade’ Brings Holiday Cheer to Milledgeville Hospital Patients

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia mayors are teaming up to make this Christmas season bright for the patients at Central State Hospital.

The 55th Annual Mayors’ Motorcade brought leaders and community members together to donate Christmas gifts, and toiletries to hundreds of adult patients at the hospital.

In Macon, the celebration began with students from Alexander II Elementary and St. Joseph’s Catholic School singing, praying and learning from Mayor Robert Reichert what the spirit of giving means.

Reichert says teaching a child about the gift of giving is tradition for the Mayors’ Motorcade.

“What we take over to Central State isn’t toys and games, and that kind of thing…it’s more essentials for adults that need soap, toothpaste and body lotion,” Reichert says, “But those can be presents, and that was the point that we made. A bar of soap-if you give it somebody for Christmas-every time they use it they’ll think of you.”

Milledgeville Mayor Richard Bentley added it takes the support of an entire community to make any holiday wish come true, especially for those who do not have loved ones during this season.

“Them [hospital patients] not having a Christmas is something I don’t think that the good folks of Middle Georgia and around the state could stand,” says Bentley.

Both mayors say they look forward to the holiday tradition next year.
