Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation Of Perry Walmart

PERRY, Ga. (41NBC/WMGT) — Black Friday shopping is already chaotic enough–and tonight it was outright scary for Perry shoppers after someone called in a bomb threat to a Walmart, according to Perry Police.

41NBC’s Chief Meterologist Chris Simmons was in line when the store was evacuated around 8 p.m.

He says people were running around saying, “get out, get out, there’s a bomb threat.”

Chris tells us Walmart employees and Perry Police told shoppers to put their things down and leave immediately.

A couple of shoppers believe people left the store with items they didn’t pay for.

“Everybody was just mobbing and rushing out–shopping carts full of stuff that you know they didn’t pay for. I mean, they just left,” said Rebekah Caviness, a customer. “It was crazy. They were pretty full. There was a couple of TVs–I mean it was just full of sheets and pots and pans–all kind of stuff.”

“I was in the line for the electronics to get the tablets and they called on the intercom for everybody to get out the store,” said Raven Smith, another customer. “We didn’t know what was going on we thought it was a fight, but it wasn’t it was just a bomb threat. And people were just running out crazy like just running all out the store and people were just pushing buggies out the store and stealing merchandise.”

“People ran by real fast, but the police were just stopping everything you know making sure they weren’t running out of the store,” said Henry Stantley, a customer. He said he saw police stop everyone who had a buggy of stuff.

Perry Police detective Drew Dodson, who was on the scene, said he has no reason to believe anyone left the store without paying for their merchandise.

Police brought in dogs to search the store, and Dodson said they didn’t find anything suspicious.

Employees went back inside around 10 p.m, and customers were let back in shortly after.
