Shop Small Saturday Ends In Success For Local Boutique
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Small shops and businesses line the streets of downtown Macon, hoping customers will stop by.
Saturday marked the third annual Shop Small Saturday in Macon, a holiday sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which encourages customers to shop locally.
Shop Small Saturday took downtown Macon by storm Saturday morning, giving customers like Chasity Kateregga encouragement to check out some small businesses.
“Well you’re giving back to your community and it ensures that these businesses will still be here and of course they give you the best sales,” said Kateregga. “You get buy one get one half off or sometimes its buy one get one free, ten percent and thirty percent. All of the businesses are doing it so you’re gonna save money and they’re making money so it works out for all of us.”
Kateregga shopped at the Pink Chief Boutique, a boutique located near the corner of Third Street and Cherry Street in downtown Macon. Annisa Jones co-owns the shop, and knows Shop Small Saturday is a huge asset to her business.
“You have a national marketer like American Express that is putting in everybody’s homes everyday to tell them and remind them of the wonderful service that a business like mine provides the community,” said Jones. “So yes, this is a huge big deal. And it’s a way for us to get to know the community as well, by giving them incentives to come in, to meet us and see our product.”
That’s the lifeblood of a small business like Pink Chief Boutique–becoming a recognizable name amongst other options for customers, like bigger chain stores.
Jones credits organizations like Newtown Macon for helping get her shop’s name out there.
“Newtown Macon–they are awesome for downtown and the things that are going down, down here. We just couldn’t make it without that type of support.”
You can’t mistake that type of support on a day like Shop Small Saturday, which for the Pink Chief Boutique, ended as a success.
But just because Shop Small Saturday has passed doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy shopping locally.
Stores almost always have deals going, and they have a unique variety of things to buy.
