Macon Troops Prepare for Afghanistan Mission
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon is sending off some of its own for deployment in Afghanistan.
More than 200 Georgia National Guardsmen of the 48th Infantry Brigade will deploy to take part in Operation Enduring Freedom.
They’re expected to conduct training and security missions in 2014 as the United States works to transition security operation to the Afghan government.
The guardsmen say goodbye to their families on Dec. 1, during a ceremony scheduled to be held at Macon Marriott City Center located at 240 Coliseum Dr.
The troops will have an American send off featuring a caravan of buses along with a police and Patriot Riders escort.
