Teens In Stolen Car Try to Escape Auto Theft Arrest

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two teenagers are behind bars after they allegedly stole a car.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office an alert Timber Ridge resident heard them going through his next door neighbor’s car, and called 911 around 4 a.m., Thursday.

The neighbor told the deputies he went outside and called out to the suspects. The teenagers took off and jumped into a light blue Ford Edge that was parked down the street.

When Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the Timber Ridge subdivision, they spotted the teenagers in their getaway car.

Deputies said it turned out to be stolen.

The suspects sped out of the Timber Ridge subdivision, but soon lost control of the Ford Edge, in a curve on Bonanza Drive. The car went off the road, and flipped over in a ditch.

The driver jumped out of the car and ran, but he was captured shortly in the woods near the accident scene. His passenger, a juvenile, climbed out of the car and began to run, but, he too was captured.

Deputies arrested 17-year-old Zashon Morant and a 15-year-old juvenile.

They are charged with receiving stolen auto-felony, fleeing and eluding, felony, obstruction, criminal trespassing and entering an auto.

The owners of the stolen Ford Edge told investigators they were unaware the car had been taken. The sheriff’s office said the Ford Edge was unlocked, and the keys were left in the ignition when it was stolen.
