Early Voting Off to Great Start in Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Early voting in Warner Robins is underway and residents may have set a record.

Last week they came out in huge numbers heading to the polls.

A slow Monday in city hall means officials with the Warner Robins Board of Elections have time to catch their breath.

Residents have come out in nearly record high numbers since early voting began and are continuing to turn in their ballots before Election Day.

“I’d like to be on the side of caution, just in case I’m not available or something might happen. I’ve spent years in the military and we always had early voting when we were overseas. I took advantage of that, it’s a right that I’d like to take advantage of,” one voter said.

Terrence Henry hit the polls and was in and out. He had a few minor registration issues, but had things taken care of immediately and says if the same thing happened on Election Day, it could’ve taken hours.

“I think it is better. You never know what the weather’s going to be like, you don’t know what the lines are going to be like, and you may have other responsibilities that day. It’s part of the system to allow you to do it early. Why not if you have time, it takes 10 minutes at the most, you’re in and out,” Henry said.

Officials say some people simply dread standing in those long lines.

“People are just more interested in what’s going on in there community. Maybe it even has something a little to do with the problems with the federal government lately, people just feel frustrated and want to have a voice on what’s going on around them,” Kathy Cummings, Elections Superintendent in Warner Robins, said.

Dorothy Moore is one of those people.

Even though she had no intentions on voting on Monday, she did, and says it’s important for people to let their voices be heard.

“I was coming to pay my taxes and I saw the sign that says ‘Vote Here.’ So I came in and they were in there so I said I might as well vote,” Moore said.

Early voting will continue until November 1st, residents can vote at Warner Robins city hall from 8 am until 5 pm.

Election Day is on November 5th.
