Neal Jani Takes ALMS Pole at Road Atlanta
BRASELTON, Ga. (AP) – Swiss driver Neel Jani took the final pole position in American Le Mans Series history Friday in qualifying for the 1,000-mile Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.
The race Saturday is the last in the series that is merging with Grand-Am to form the United SportsCar Championship.
Jani turned a lap at 132.036 mph in the No. 12 Rebellion Racing Lola-Toyota he is sharing with Nick Heidfeld and Nicolas Prost. Jani and Prost are the defending Petit Le Mans champions, driving to the 2012 victory with Andrea Belicchi.
Lucas Luhr qualified second in the No. 6 Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03c-Honda prototype with a lap of 129.892 mph. Luhr and season-long teammate Klaus Graf wrapped up the P1 class championship three races ago. They are teaming with French driver Romain Dumas.
