Macon Teen Shot in Face Dies

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon teenager, who was shot in the head Friday died today, according to Macon Police Sgt. Melanie Hofmann.

Marquez Blount was shot in the face outside of 622 Cleveland Street, around 5:45 p.m.

The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at 6:38 p.m., Saturday. Blount was recovering in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Police have arrested a 16 year-old male for the shooting. He was taken into custody a short distance from the shooting scene.

He is being held at the Regional Youth Development Center. Police are not releasing his name because he is a juvenile.

He is charged with possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18, and possession of a firearm with altered serial number.

Hofmann said additional charges are expected as a result of Blount’s death.

The sergeant said Blount lived on Cleveland Street, and the victim knew the shooter.

Witnesses told police that the teens were handling the gun when it discharged.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered near the shooting scene.

An autopsy on Blount is scheduled for Tuesday.

Hofmann said the incident remains under investigation.
