Attendance Figures Rise as the 2013 Georgia National Fair Comes to a Close

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – After ten days of cotton candy, fried Twinkies, and wild rides, the 2013 Georgia National Fair came to a close last night.

Nearly 450,000 people came out to enjoy the festivities- that’s almost 5,000 more than last year and was a one-percent increase. That is the second all-time highest attendance for the fair since it began in 1990.

Michelle Treptow, director of communications for the fair, said despite the threat of a tropical storm,
two days of rain, and government furloughs, Georgians from all over the state were able to get out and have a good time.

“It’s a good clean environment, people need the respite from the everyday life,” Treptow said, “All the trials and tribulations we go through all week at work. We leave all that in the parking lots, we enter the gates and it’s nothing but good family times.”

The highest attendance figure for the National Fair remains in 2010, in which more than 465,000 people passed through the fairground gates in Perry that year.
