Mercer Men’s Golf Takes Sixth in AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic

DULUTH, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – Junior Trey Rule fired a 6-under 66 in Tuesday’s final round of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic to lead the Mercer men’s golf team to a sixth place finish at the Berkeley Hills Country Club. Rule’s final around 66 was one off the tournament’s low round and lifted him to a tie for fourth place individually.

Mercer’s team score of 285 on Tuesday paired with scores of 292 and 282 in the first two rounds. The Bears’ tournament total of 859 was two strokes ahead of both Georgia Southern and VCU and three strokes behind Kentucky for fifth.

Host Georgia State captured the tournament title with a three-round total of 845, while South Florida (847) finished second, South Alabama (849) finished third and Chattanooga (855) took fourth.

Rule’s 66 featured 12 pars and six birdies and paired with scores of 74 and 69 on Monday. His tie for fourth place marked the best finish of his collegiate career and was the third time he’s cracked the top-10.

Senior Hans Reimers had back-to-back 70’s on Monday and shot 74 on Tuesday to tie for 18th place. Senior James Beale used 71 strokes on Tuesday to bring his tournament total to 220 and tie for 43rd place.

Freshman Emmanuel Kountakis posted his second-straight 74 on Tuesday and tied for 60th place at 223. Freshman Sean Smothers rounded out Mercer’s team competitors with a 56-hole total of 225 and a tie for 69th place.

Sophomore Jeffrey Heinicka, Jr. tied for 60th while competing as an individual. He registered scores of 79, 72 and 72 at the event.

Mercer completes its fall schedule at the UNF/ Georgia Southern Intercollegiate at Deerwood Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida. The two-day event begins November 4.
