United States Army Reserves Preparing to Deploy

On Sunday, January 23rd the 352nd Combat Sustained Support Battalion will attend a ceremony in celebration of it’s deployment. A hundred men and women will prepare to deploy just a day following the ceremony for over a year. United States Army Reserve Captain Michael “Neal” Miller and his wife Allyson share their story.

The Miller’s have been married for more than four years. They met face-to-face for the first time in London and now they’re happily living in Warner Robins. But on Monday, Captain Michael Miller will head overseas for the third time.

Allyson says, “You can never mentally prepare because you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Miller worries about his family back home, but the couple does their best to make the transition smooth. He says, “…my days get to start off talking to Allyson and since there’s an 8 hour difference so her days get to end with the phone call.”

Along with the phone, the couple can email and send video recordings. And although each deployment gets a little easier, Allyson says there are still some aspects that never do.

“I know that in just a few short days it’s just me and I have to be completely independent and when I come home at night he’s not going to be there for me to share my day with so just the anticipation of how that’s going to be for me, never gets easier.”

The deployment ceremony will be held on Sunday, January 23rd at Macon State College. The ceremony begins at 10AM.
