Former Macon Police Officer Pleads Guilty in Tractor Theft Case

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former Macon police officer accused of stealing a tractor earlier this year pleaded guilty in front of a Bibb County Superior Court judge on Monday.

Jon Adam Wantz has several charges against him including theft by taking, criminal trespass, and violation of the oath of office for allegedly stealing a tractor from a Macon plumbing business back in January.

Wantz was facing 33 years in prison for the crimes, but accepted a plea deal.

“He’ll receive a sentence of 10 years, he’ll serve four in prison with a balance he’ll be on probation.” David Cooke, District Attorney for Bibb County said. “So a four year prison sentence to be followed by six years on probation and that’s conditioned upon his truthful testimony on trial and his cooperation in our prosecution.”

A trial date has not been set for Troy Guidry, the other former Macon police officer allegedly involved in the tractor theft.

The state says that date will be set very soon.
