Perry ‘Buzzard Drop’ Gearing Up for Big Debut
PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The city of Perry will be celebrating the first annual “Buzzard Drop” in downtown Perry on New Year’s Eve of this year.
The city along with the new Main Street Affiliate Advisory Board showed a preview of the celebration at a press conference on Tuesday.
Perry Mayor Jimmy Faircloth along with Main Street Board member Susan Scragg talked about why the city chose to use a buzzard as its bal
l drop heading into the New Year.
“Buzzards return to Perry every fall and they’re back again…and we can’t do anything about them because they’re a protected species,” Faircloth said. “So we decided to honor our seasonal ‘friends’ with a Buzzard Drop at the end of the year.”
The city displayed a replica of the water tower to honor the birds’ arrival and the official “Bob the Buzzard” will be revealed on New Year’s Eve.
Festivities in Perry will start at 9:00 pm in Downtown Perry with live music, parties, food, and drinks.
The countdown will begin just before midnight to bring in 2014.
