Store Robbed Days Before Opening
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon police are continuing their search for robbers who broke into a convenience store, five days before its grand opening.
The Sunoco gas station and G mart, on Bloomfield Drive was robbed Tuesday. It is one of 10 stores the Patel family owns in Macon.
G Mart’s manager, Ray Patel said two people shattered the front glass doors to break- in.
Once inside, they kicked in the office door.
Patel said they took two safes with more than two thousand five hundred dollars inside them.
But he added, the break-in will not hinder their grand opening.
“We like this community and we just want to stay here and we like to serve all of the people [in the] surrounded [area],” said Patel. “The damage they did [was awful]. I mean I can’t even describe what they did they just cost me so much money to fix it.”
The store has a state of the art surveillance system with cameras and two large flat screen monitors.
They also have a protective glass at the register.
Patel said his brother-in-law Gary died last month, and the family named the store G-Mart in remembrance of him.
The store’s grand opening is still scheduled to be held Saturday.
Anyone with information about the robbery, is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-877-682-7463.
