Affordable Housing in Perry Receiving Help from Cordele Housing Authority

PERRY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A housing authority from Cordele is helping a Perry affordable housing complex get new upgrades.

Last week, Perry city council approved a resolution allowing the housing authority in Cordele to issue bonds so they can improve certain homes in Perry.

Now, some homes are receiving attention, with hopes of revitalizing the area.

According to Penrose Wolf, affordable housing in Perry is hard to come by.

He’s the Chair for the housing authority there and says it’s constantly full.

There’s even a waiting list for families…and the list hasn’t budged in quite a while.

“Perry housing authority needs to find a way to build additional housing for its residence either on this site, or else where in the city,” Wolf said.

One of the housing complexes in Perry is receiving money from the housing authority in Cordele for renovations.

They’re issuing bonds to finance improvements in facilities across middle Georgia.

“The cash flow from which, will be loaned to another organization, a non-profit called Cordele Heritage Oaks,” Wolf said.

Heritage Oaks owns some properties across middle Georgia, and one area in Perry will be receiving some attention.

“In order to accomplish, the housing authority in Cordele, Heritage Oaks, both the city of Perry and the Perry housing authority to sign a resolution,” Wolf said.

That will allow Cordele’s Housing Authority to come into the city of Perry in order to improve some of the affordable housing units in the area.

Laws say housing authorities in one city can’t enter another without proper consent from both the city and the other housing authority.

Wolf hopes the money received for the housing project will benefit the entire city of Perry.
