Postcard Gets Delivered 52 Years Later

A postcard that’s more than 50 years old finally got delivered on Wednesday. Wilmer Bragg Jr., an active marine at the time, was headed back to his military base when he wrote the 5 cent postcard.

It’s postmarked November 10, 1958. It’s the day Bragg stopped at the Carlsbad Caverns in Whites Cities, New Mexico.

Bragg and his wife both say it was a shock and surprise to receive the card 52 years after it was mailed out.

Bragg also wrote in the postcard about sending his wife and daughter, Beverly, a package with souvenirs from the Caverns. He and his wife are both unsure of whether that was ever delivered. A spokesperson with the U.S Postal Service says the card may have been stuck in equipment that was considered empty.
