Macon – Bibb Mayoral Candidate Ellis Responds to Critics
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon – Bibb mayoral candidate C. Jack Ellis is sounding off about a recent opinion column in the Macon Telegraph that he says is “racially divisive.”
The column claims Ellis didn’t work to build a bridge between white and black communities in Macon when he was in office.
Ellis denies those claims, and says he’s worked hard to improve race relations in the area.
“Through my efforts, working with Ambassador Andrew Young, we convinced Hank Aaron to accept forgiveness from Mr. Rocker and allowed him to continue his major league baseball career.” Ellis said in a news conference on Monday in front of Macon City Hall.
“That was a result of my efforts. That’s not the action of someone who is a race person, I’m not a race person, I never have been.”
He says articles like that will further divide the community.
