Big Second Half Leads GC Soccer to First Victory of Season

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (GCSU RELEASE) – Georgia College soccer (1-1) picked up its first win of the young season with a 3-1 victory at Nova Southeastern University (1-1) Saturday afternoon.

GC soccer gave up an early goal in the first half at the 11:41 mark, with Malin Broberg of Nova scoring the only goal of the half.

The Bobcats came out firing in the second frame, scoring their first goal 41 seconds after the break, off the foot of Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) her first of the season.

The go-ahead goal came at the 56th minute, with the first goal of the season from Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.), the assist going to Kessler Matheson (Martinez, Ga.). Ally Barys (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) added to the Bobcat lead with 4:25 left in the game, scoring her first goal of the year as well.

Leading the team in saves for the Bobcats was Jessica Catapano (Alpharetta, Ga.) with seven in a full 90 minutes’ effort. Veilleux led the way for Georgia College with four shots on goal and Barys coming in a close second with three. GC soccer was out-shot overall in the match 15-9, but won in the column that mattered, proving efficiency is better than quantity.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 13 hosting Pfeiffer University at 7:30 p.m. for the Bobcat home opener. Friday also marks the beginning of the Bobcat Shootout at Bobcat Field.
