DECISION 2013: District 7 Candidate Shepherd Knows How to Run Multi-Million Dollar Budget

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — As a former major with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Scotty Shepherd has seen his fair share of multi-million dollar budgets.

Shepherd believes that experience will be an asset to the new Macon-Bibb County Commission if he’s elected to represent the residents of District 7.

“Working on a daily basis with multi-million dollar budgets and planning and implementing those budgets is things I have experience with,” said Shepherd.

He brings a different perspective than his opponents to the race. While he never held an elected position, Shepherd has worked with state, county, and local governments as a supervisor with the sheriff’s office.

If elected to county commission, he’ll focus on cleaning up areas of District 7, like Village Green and Bloomfield.

“We’ve got some blighted areas that we certainly need to pay attention to,” said Shepherd.

He also wants to make use of some of those empty buildings in the area, like the old Home Depot. Shepherd believes that could have been a good building for the new animal shelter.

“I’d like to work with realtors and whoever I can to fill those businesses back up,” said Shepherd.

He also added, “We’re not going to attract anybody if we don’t have good education, safe streets, and the community looks like it’s thriving and growing.”
