Jones Co. Hit-and-Run Victim Remembered at Vigil

GRAY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As investigators piece together the hit-and-run case in Gray, family and friends remember the victim in prayer.

In song, the family of Marquis Deshaun Lawson, carried a cross to his crash site. Lawson was found dead in a ditch on Wheeler Road by a passerby in July. According to family members, he was walking up the street on his cell phone at the time of the accident.

His younger brother Terrance Greene hammered the cross into the ground in Lawson’s honor. Greene said he hopes officers find the suspect and vehicle, but his main concern is “moving on”.

“Even if they find them, it won’t bring him back,” Greene said, “I find myself wanting to know who did it for the wrong reasons.”

At the end of the vigil, the group of about 20 lit candles and prayed before marching back up Wheeler Road.

The Jones County Sheriff’s office is still looking into a Nissan Xterra as a “vehicle of interest”, however the case remains open. Anyone with information is urged to contact deputies at (478) 986-3489.
