Double Murder Shocks Houston County Community

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Investigators canvassed the area of Chadwick Road on Monday, rustling the leaves in the quiet neighborhood tucked away in the woods, and worrying the residents living in the west Houston County community.

“It’s really, really quiet, I mean nothing goes on around here, honestly, it’s really just shocking,” said Joshua Young.

While walking his sister home from the school bus, Young noticed the crime scene just yards away from his home, at 111 Chadwick Road, where officials are searching for clues into a double homicide.

The Houston County Sheriff’s Office began its probe at the home around 5 a.m. Monday morning. According to a news release, a male subject called to report the incident. When deputies arrived, they located evidence of gun fire. Around 12:30 p.m., they discovered the bodies, miles away in a wooded area near north Houston Lake Road and U.S. Highway 41. The victims were two males, both shot and killed at the home on Chadwick Road and then taken to the second location.

Authorities have not released the name of the victims or confirmed if they lived in the home on Chadwick Road. Janet Smith lives down the street and admits she doesn’t know who lives at the home. She thinks a group of three to five men in their late 20’s live there, but she doesn’t know any names.

“It seems like we’ve had people in and out of that house, I would hear yelling sometimes and cars screeching out the driveway,” Smith said.

Young was heading home from work overnight when he noticed an unusual car near the driveway.

“I saw the truck in the ditch,” Young said, “I didn’t think anything of it, I figured someone just missed the driveway.”

Skid marks cover the road and Smith’s mailbox was toppled over into the ditch next to her home. Deputies on the scene would not confirm if there was a connection between the accident and the killings. Houston County Lieutenant John Holland said two people are in custody, but haven’t been charged and investigators are still looking for more persons of interest.

As the search continues, the community in the cul-de-sac hopes law enforcement doesn’t hit a dead end.

“It’s shocking,” Smith said, “I never thought anything like this could happen here.”
