Milledgeville Main Street Named Top Program in Georgia

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Milledgeville received top honors during this year’s Georgia Downtown Conference.

Milledgeville Main Street is the 2013 Downtown Development Program of the Year. Director Carlee Schulte says that is the highest honor a main street program could receive during the conference in Savannah last week. The Milledgeville program beat out 96 other main street programs across the state.

Schulte says the city was picked based on its outstanding efforts in four key areas: promotion, design, organization, and economic restructuring. She says the state organization also highlighted the new BOOST program.

She adds this is an award the community can brag about.

“I just hope that the community is proud of this award and realize that we can use this to promote Milledgeville as a whole,” Schulte said. “For the next year, we’re “Program of the Year” so this is something we definitely want to hang on to.”

Downtown businessman Frank Pendergast also earned the Gold Award of Excellence in Design for his development The Baldwin Lofts.
