David Lucas Accused of Choking 14-year-old Autistic Grandson of Wife’s Political Opponent

LUCASMACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County deputies are investigating after a woman accused State Senator David Lucas of choking the grandson of his wife’s political opponent.

Kinya Miller filed a report with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, saying Lucas walked up to her 14-year-old autistic son Wednesday evening at Lakeview Apartments, where Lucas’ wife, District 3 Commission candidate Elaine Lucas, was holding a campaign event.

Miller says the state senator began choking him. The 14-year-old is the grandson of Terry Tripp, who is running against Elaine Lucas for Macon-Bibb county commission.

David Lucas declined to comment on camera, but flatly denied the accusation.

Macon-Bibb Commission candidate Elaine Lucas says the events that unfolded Wednesday night are an attempt to distract voters.

“It was a wonderful event until the granddaughter of my opponent showed up and tried to disrupt the function,” Lucas said.

Elaine Lucas did confirm an altercation took place, after Tripp’s relatives were asked to leave the event, but she says her husband tried to be a peacemaker.

“They proceeded to create what could have been a really bad situation had the security there not stepped in,” Lucas said.

Miller says she has video of the incident.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis says while the chatter of political drama may be the case, his job is to find the facts.

“If there is any type of criminal activity follow that up through the DA’s office or the solicitors office and get a successful resolution to it,” Davis said.
