Female Wrestler from Macon Heading to Pan-American Championships in Colombia
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 17-year-old Rutland High School student Emily Pinson is getting ready to head south for the weekend, but it won’t be for vacation.
We first told you about Emily in January. Back then, she was getting ready to represent USA Wrestling in Sweden.
In July, she competed in the national tournament in Fargo, North Dakota. She finished 2nd in her age group there and back in May, she qualified for the Pan-American Wrestling Championships at a separate event.
The Pan-Ams take place this weekend in Colombia, South America. Emily says girls, if you want to wrestle, don’t be scared.
“Any girl out there can go out and wrestle,” she says. “She just has to put her heart to it and not think about the guys and what people think. They’ve just got to go out there and do it, and as long as they have the heart and dreams to do it, they can do it.”
Emily leaves for South America bright and early Wednesday morning. She says her goal is to compete in the Olympics in Rio in 2016.
